City and Hackney Primary Care Trust delivers healthcare services for the NHS throughout the City of London and the London Borough of Hackney. It is responsible for GPs, health centres, district nurses and health visitors as well as Homerton Hospital. As part of the NHS-wide drive to use technology to improve the standard of care it can offer, the Primary Care Trust has introduced electronic patient records to all its departments.

Centralised repository

City & Hackney PCT have utilised Texunatech’s Soltex system (built using its DMI technology) to provide a centralised data repository for the 300,000 patients located within their district of care. The PCT required a system to integrate with various other feeder systems within the organisation to centralise patient records.

The PCT uses our OLAP reporting components to undertake complex OLAP reporting on data in the central repository.

Soltex takes information from the external system used by GPs, from demographic records made by health visitors and from information gathered at schools and immunisation centres. By combining all the existing information about a patient and storing it in one record, the centralised data repository gives the health professionals of City & Hackney PCT a complete, accurate reference point for patient information.

The system performs real-time data validation on over 300,000 records and implements various data transformation and aggregation rules during data integration.

E-GIF clinical forms

In addition to receiving feeds from external systems, a number of departments use eGIF compliant web-based eForms which have been developed to directly enter data into Soltex. City & Hackney PCT continues to expand its system by using the Soltex Form Builder to develop additional clinical modules. The following modules are currently utilised:

Workflow and the appointment booking system

The PCT required a system to integrate with various other feeder systems…

City & Hackney PCT commissioned the development of a centralised appointment booking system for the Women and young people’s service. This system has allowed the PCT to move all telephone booking operations for the service into one central location, improving customer service and freeing valuable resources. The appointment booking system is a fully integrated component of Soltex and was developed using the workflow component of Texunatech’s DMI technology.

Reporting

The PCT uses OLAP reporting components to undertake complex OLAP reporting on data in the central repository. These reports are utilised by clinicians, service managers and the PCT board to manage their clinical governance and statutory national returns to the department of health.

Multi-departmental procurement system

Texunatech has again reused the Soltex platform to create a multi-departmental procurement system for City and Hackney PCT called the HPS system. This is used to manage requisitions and put a formal workflow on authorisation of purchase orders.
