North Dorset PCT
North Dorset Primary Care Trust (PCT) manages the IT services for its Mental Health Trust and must submit a complex Mental Health Minimum Dataset statutory report to the Department of Health (DoH) on a quarterly basis. This report has rigorous data requirements and the nature of its content means that the data must be of an extremely high quality.
The PCT used to capture its reporting information from five disparate legacy systems, however these systems performed almost no data quality or validation checks, meaning that data records needed to be manually checked and validated (a time exhaustive process). Further to this, these five systems had various different dataset formats, which meant that a high degree of data transformation was required.
In less than three months, Texunatech was able to implement a system to automate this complex process. This combined a detailed analysis phase to understand the data requirements and a complex technical implementation to provide the validation rules to capture and correct poor quality data.
Highlights
- Delivery of a browser based, eGIF compliant system;
- Centralised data repository;
- Integration with five legacy systems based on different database engines (MSSQL, Oracle, SyBase, Paradox);
- Well-defined datasets of information;
- Complex analysis to define validation rules;
- Regulatory reporting formats delivered quarterly; and
- Ongoing management to further improve quality.
This project was delivered on time and under budget.
