Linux system administrator

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to be part of a well established, seven year old and rapidly growing IT company with offices in London, Moscow, Salvador and Cork. The company has 35 employees with 5 of these in the Cork office.

You will be based in Cork and expected to hit the ground running and rapidly develop within an exciting and challenging environment. You will be an integral part of Texunatech delivery and support team. Your work will include the hands-on support of Texunatech’s office, server infrastructure and data centre (IT infrastructure in Hollyhill office, co-location facilities, advice and remote support of internationally hosted systems). You will also be called upon to take an active role in the growth and development of the Cork office in the Irish market and this will include taking a lead in the technical aspects of the sales process.

This is a demanding role where you will be expected to deliver from day one and you will have clear responsibility and ownership over your deliverables.

Texunatech use Linux based 3 tier web applications, mostly developed internally or based on open source applications. The main responsibilities for the post are:

• Collaborate with the remote system administrators to configure and support IT infrastructure (approx 50 servers and 300+ users);
• Support local desktop users (approximately 5 users) with workstation setup and configuration and with local office IT infrastructure;
• Monitor and maintain state of the hardware and all applications;
• Work with hardware providers to purchase, repair and replace hardware;
• Implement processes to conform with ISO 27001;
• Prepare technical responses to tenders and engage prospective clients in technical discussions.

We are seeking a multi-talented individual who ideally will have the following skills:

• Up to 3 years of Windows/Linux or UNIX system administration experience;
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and basic networking tools;
• Linux mail server experience;
• Knowledge of web servers, firewalls/security, DNS services, routing;
• Working experience of VoIP, PHP, Drupal, Wordpress, Moodle, Flash, Java, Mondrian and SQL;
• Experience in implementing an applications/server monitoring system;
• Experience in hardware monitoring and support;
• Be comfortable with evaluating new applications for use in the organization;
• Be comfortable working daily with remote teams, and working alone on smaller infrastructure development projects;
• Be a systematic documenter of applications/systems;
• Possess excellent verbal and written skills with outstanding customer service skills;
• Excel at preparing tenders and presenting to senior decision-makers and project boards of major clients as part of the sales effort;
• Higher technical education is an advantage.
